International Cat Care lists months 1 to 7 and 12; the rows for 8 to 11 months are estimated on a straight line between its 7- and 12-month figures.

How old is my cat in human years?

Count the first year as about 15, the second as bringing the total to about 24, then add about 4 for every year after. A 5-year-old cat is about 36, and a 10-year-old about 56.

Is one cat year equal to seven human years?

No. A 1-year-old cat is about 15 in human years, not 7. Multiplying by seven undercounts the fast first years and overcounts the later ones: at 10, a cat is about 56.

Is 12 old for a cat?

Yes. A 12-year-old cat is about 64 in human years. International Cat Care calls ages 11 to 14 senior, and the AAHA/AAFP guidelines call every cat of 10 years and older a senior.

The AAHA/AAFP guidelines say senior cats should be seen by a vet at least every 6 months, and more often if they have a long-term condition.

How old is my kitten in human years?

Kittens age fastest in their first months. A 2-month-old kitten is about 2 in human years, a 4-month-old about 6 and a 6-month-old about 10. At 12 months, a cat is about 15.

What are the life stages of a cat?

It depends on the system. International Cat Care uses six stages, from kitten to super senior. The AAHA/AAFP 2021 guidelines use four stages by age, plus an end-of-life stage that can come at any age.

Both systems call ages 7 to 10 mature. They differ on senior: from 10 for AAHA/AAFP, from 11 for International Cat Care.

AAHA/AAFP also names an end-of-life stage, which can come at any age, so it is not drawn on the bar.
