Cat age calculator

Enter your cat’s age to see the rough human-age equivalent and life stage, with care tips for that stage.

Year 1 of a cat’s life ≈ 15 human years; year 2 adds about 9 (reaching ≈24); each year after adds about 4. This is the AVMA / International Cat Care convention — the old "multiply by 7" rule is a myth, because cats mature fastest in their first two years.

A friendly estimate based on veterinary life-stage guidance, not a medical assessment. Every cat ages differently — discuss your cat’s health with your veterinarian.

The convention behind the numbers

This calculator uses the AVMA / International Cat Care convention: year one is roughly 15 human years, year two adds about 9 more (reaching roughly 24), and each year after that adds about 4. The older “multiply by 7” rule is a myth — cats mature fastest in their first two years, not on a flat 7:1 ratio.
