貓咪吃了洋蔥怎麼辦？

為什麼洋蔥對貓有毒？
洋蔥含有會破壞紅血球的含硫化合物，切、煮、咀嚼都會把它們釋放出來。受損的紅血球破裂，造成一種貧血（亨氏小體溶血性貧血）。貓是對它最敏感的物種，比狗還敏感。
洋蔥吃多少會中毒？
很少就會。貓的紀錄是中毒病例，不是安全上限：曾有貓吃下每公斤體重 5 公克的生洋蔥就中毒；狗則是在每公斤體重 15–30 公克時出現症狀。
熟洋蔥或洋蔥粉可以吃嗎？
不行，煮熟並不會讓洋蔥變安全。Merck 記錄過貓吃下不到一小匙的熟洋蔥就中毒，並指出濃縮形式最常造成中毒：脫水洋蔥片、洋蔥粉和乾燥洋蔥湯料。

大蒜、青蔥和韭蔥對貓也有毒嗎？
是的。大蒜、細香蔥、韭蔥、紅蔥和青蔥，都和洋蔥一樣屬於蔥屬，對貓都有毒；其中大蒜的毒性是洋蔥的 3–5 倍，一樣絕對不能餵。
洋蔥中毒的症狀什麼時候出現？
通常要過幾天。大量紅血球被破壞之後，通常才看得到症狀，所以貓咪一開始可能看起來很正常。這就是為什麼要在任何症狀出現之前，就先打電話給獸醫。
貧血出現後，可能看到無精打采、食慾不振、呼吸急促、心跳加快、虛弱、黃疸和紅褐色的尿液，也可能虛脫，甚至死亡。
